Railroad Roots
June 29, 1950: New boxcars arrive for the Berlin Mills Railway. The proud man posing on the right is my father's father and my namesake. On the left is Ernie Gagnon. He was a good friend of my Dad's for as long I could remember and he always had a Mars bar for me when I was a kid. Obviously, I liked Ernie.
My father had just graduated from High School when this photo was taken and was soon off to join the Navy. He later worked for the Berlin Mills Railway and eventually became Superintendent. This photo is courtesy of Beyond Brown Paper. This website organizes the archives of the former paper mill in my hometown, Berlin, NH.
