Newton's Revenge Bicycle Race to the top of Mt. Washington

Here are a handful of my favorite images from photographing Newton's Revenge.  Truth be told it was my first time photographing a bike race and it was great fun!  The 2015 Newton’s Revenge Bicycle Race was held on July 11, 2015. The race is a 7.6 mile bicycle race up the Mt. Washington Auto Road. Eric Follen was this year's overall winner and Stephanie Wetzel was the women's champion. You can see the full results here:  http://www.coolrunning.com/results/15/nh/Jul11_Newton_1_set1.shtml

The 2015 Delta Dental Mt. Washington Road Race

It's been super busy and this is a little late but here are some of my favorite photographs from the Mt. Washington Road Race.  For the uninitiated, here's a little back story... The 55th Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race was held Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Mt. Washington Auto Road.  The race is a 7.6-mile hillclimb to the summit of Mt. Washington, climbing more than 4,500′ en route with average grades of 12% and maximum grade of 21%.  This year's winners were Joe Gray, who set a new American record, and Kim Dobson.  To see more images, check out my race gallery.

Mountain Running Monday Mt. Washington!

It's Mountain Running Monday and this weekend is the Mt. Washington Road Race at the Mt. Washington Auto Road!!! You don't see a lot of race photography in black and white, but this shot from 2013 of Sage Canaday at about 4.5 miles is one of my all time favs. Sage would finish 3rd with 1:03:39 that year after running a smoking 58:27 to take the win in 2012.

BREAKING NEWS: Official Photographer for 2015 Races at the Mt. Washington Auto Road!

Here's the BIG NEWS folks! I'm excited to share that I will be the official photographer for several races at the Mt. Washington Auto Road and Great Glen Trails this summer. Joe Viger Photography will be the official source for competitor photos and downloads as well as providing images for the media.
The plan is to cover four races including one of my favorites... the Mt. Washington Road Race. I will also be photographing 3 cycling races: The Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb, Newton's Revenge and 24 Hours of Great Glen. These are fantastic events featuring amazing athletes and I'm super excited to have this opportunity to work with the folks at the Auto Road. I look forward to seeing y'all out there and making some great images!

The 54th Northeast Delta Dental Mt. Washington Road Race

7.6 miles in length.  An average grade of 12%.  Extended sections of the course have an 18% grade.   The last 50 yards steepens what is affectionately called "the wall" with a 22% grade. The Mt. Washington Road Race is a New England running tradition and a rite of passage for mountain runners everywhere.  I photographed the race for the fourth time last week and it's more fun and more remarkable every time.  The 2014 men's champion was Joe Gray.  After a string of strong showings, I was excited for Joe to take the win.  Last year's winner, Eric Blake was second with 2012 champ Sage Canaday, Zach Miller and Ryan Bak rounding out the top five.  Shannon Payne of Colorado took the women's race in her first try at Mt. Washington followed by Italian World Champion Valentina Belotti, stand out Brandy Erholtz, former US and World Champion Kasie Enman and NH favorite Denise Sandahl.  What a day!  Here are a few of my favorite images.
