2012 Mt. Washington Road Race

I've got a new mountain running photography project going. Photographing mountain races, I've met inspiring, remarkable athletes and fantastic people. I thought it might be fun to capture them standing still for a change.

I'm going to kick it off with this photograph of Tommy Manning from Colorado Springs, Co. Tommy has been on the US Mountain Running team multiple times and will be at the World Championships in Italy again this year. This photograph was made after he placed sixth at the 2012 Mt. Washington Road Race.

I'll be posting more to a gallery at my website in the Projects section. Here's the direct link...

Evening Cow Pasture

Mt Washington Road Race-1.jpg
Chocorua, NH

This was one of those U-Turn photographs. I drove past this scene heading home last evening and did the hectic turn around to go back to it. Ten minutes prior I had been standing in the Chocorua Lake making images of sunset water reflections.

Throwing my tripod on my shoulder, I ran across Route 16 in the headlights of Friday night vacationer traffic. One of my wet flip flops was momentarily stranded in the middle of the highway. Photography can be dangerous business. It was nearly dark when I got set and fired the shutter for an exposure over a second long.

Two Days to Race Time!

Check out Trail Runner Magazine's Mt. Washington Race preview with pics of 2011 winner Ricky Gates, Tommy Manning and Ryan Woods by Joe Viger Photography! Also featuring quotes from MWV's own Paul Kirsch! I'm looking forward to shooting from the Summit again this year with a super strong field of elite runners.

Pine Barrens

I've driven by The Nature Conservancy's Ossipee Pine Barrens property hundreds of times. I've hiked, biked and snowshoe'd on the property. Somehow, I had never tried to make a serious photograph there. Driving home from Little League I realized tonight was the night. It was an amazing sunset with fantastic clouds. The light rain never picked up, so I kept on making pictures in perfect photo zen.
